Everyone is aware of the philanthropic
activities of the yesteryear star
Sivakumar. Every year his trust
has identified top ranking and deserving
class XII students and has been
felicitating them. This year also
the function took place at the Film
Chamber auditorium. Thirty students
were presented with Rs. 10,000 each
running to a tune of Rs. 3 lakhs.
In addition to this Rs 6 lakhs was
given to organizations that impart
education to the deprived.
Speaking at the event Sivakumar
stated that ‘Sivakumar Educational
Trust’ was founded in the
year 1979 and for the past 25 years
he has been contributing to the
cause and for the past five years
his son and actor Suriya has taken
over and is continuing the noble
deed in the name of Agaram foundation.
The trust takes care of deprived
and the underprivileged students.
Actor Suriya distributed prizes
for the students. He said that the
event has become a family event
and wanted to do more than what
his father was doing and hence the
birth of Agaram foundation.
Agaram foundation has set aside
Rs. 25 lakhs for the educational
development of the disadvantaged.
The Agaram teaching center selects
100 rural students and takes care
of their education and also provides
awareness among them, especially
for students who have discontinued
their studies for various reasons.
The ‘Vazhai’ scheme
also was highlighted in the event.
The scheme takes care of the rural
students’ welfare. Emphasis
was made to contribute in a small
way for the needs of the neglected
children. Suriya also urged people
to come forward and help these children
in whatever way they can.
The chief guest of the event, a
former beneficiary of the Trust
Mr Veerapandi has cleared the IAS
examination and has secured 53rd
position, which is a noteworthy
achievement of the Trust.
The Prayer song was recited by Sivakumar’s
daughter Brinda and the welcome
address was given by son Karthi.
Pragaladh Kakka and Venkat of Isha
Vidhya Trust received a cheque for
Rs. 3.5 lakhs. ‘Vazhai’
organization was offered Rs. 2 lakhs.
The Vote of Thanks was given by
Jayashree of Agaram foundation.
