Naan Kadavul is back in the news,
5 months after its release. We had
reported in February that a case
had been filed against Bala by an
organization working for the physically
disabled. He had been accused of
showing disabled people in a degrading
manner in his film. However, in
theaters, the movie had created
a few ripples for its raw and strong
depiction of the lives of disabled
people and beggars and the mafia
operating behind them. The movie
had featured numerous disabled and
mutilated people picked straight
from the streets for the making
of the movie. Taking offence to
their portrayal in poor light, the
organization moved the court against
the director demanding compensation
from him.
The case, filed in the Chennai Civil
court, came up for hearing yesterday.
Lawyers are yet to appear on behalf
of director Bala. The court ordered
the defendants to file its defense
and has set the next hearing of
the case on August 3rd. |
