What if it's releasing 9 days after the dreaded
13th, Kanchana is still a horror movie. Although
spine chilling horror movies are a rarity
in Tamil cinema, a few movies in the recent
past have been successful in their attempt.
Here are a few.
Chandramukhi, remade into as many Indian
languages, is one of the few movies that delved
into the paranormal side. Needless to say,
there was the superstar and the movie was
a roaring success.
Eeram, the tastefully made, visually beautifully
thriller is the story of an unfortunate woman
who dies a horrible death at the hands of
her husband and comes back to haunt him. With
lesser known actors, the director could pull
this one off what with good performances and
a decent script.
Directed by Vikram Kumar, Yaavarum Nalam tells
the horror tale of a haunted house, without
being excessively dramatic. Maddy plays the
breadwinner of a family who is responsible
for rescuing his family from the hands of
horror.
Muni, Kanchana's earlier edition, itself was
a well-made horror tale about a family and
a haunted house. Thanks to the response it
generated, the makers are encouraged to make
a sequel - Kanchana.
