Film title in controversy

Recently a film titled Pallikondapuram with Napoleon in the lead role was announced in leading vernacular dailies. This has come under severe flak from Neela Padmanabhan, an eminent writer in Tamil, who had written a novel called Pallikondapuram in 1970. He has stated that without his permission, the title should not be taken by

anybody and in the event of someone using the title, they would have to face severe consequences.

The first edition of Pallikondapuram was published in December 1970 followed by second and third edition in 1985 and 2000, respectively. The work was also translated in many Indian languages as well as Russian. Many students have chosen this novel as their subject of thesis for their M.Phil and PhD dissertations.
