2009
has passed, 2010 is here. The year
gone by leaves us with lots of good
memories and a few not so good ones.
But, let us stick to the good ones
on the first day of the New Year.
The winner of 2009 is definitely the
discerning audience who gave the right
kind of support and encouragement
to the right kind of cinema. We saw
many new, small and different efforts
making their marks at the box office.
Now, we don’t want to go into
another long list of the stand out
films of the year. Definitely, all
readers are aware of the films that
made an impact by being different
and thinking out of the box. But,
there was also good support for the
clean commercial entertainers throughout
the year. Stars did not rule the roost,
but they did not have a very bad year
either. There was good music throughout
the year, courtesy Harris Jayaraj,
Yuvan and a few young and budding
composers, the only sorry note being
A.R. Rahman’s absence from the
charts in the year that he won the
Oscar. Budgets seem to be swelling,
effort and commitment seem to be doubling
and the Tamil film industry is definitely
growing. With 2010 having begun we
know that there are quite a few big
and good ones to look out for this
year. We will be having the first
season of biggies in a fortnight’s
time (Pongal). Let’s hope for
a good start to 2010.
With that Team Behindwoods wishes
all its readers a very Happy and Prosperous
New Year. Let 2010 be a year to remember.
Thank you all for the support and
feedback throughout 2009, we will
be looking forward to more of the
same in 2010 too!
