Folk hero passes away

Actor Pandian one of director Bharathi Raja’s protégés died early this morning due to a kidney failure. The actor was admitted to a private hospital in Madurai, a few days ago, but failed to make it back to good health. He made his entry into filmdom with the film Manvaasanai directed by his mentor Bharathi Raja and went on to act in a number of films under his direction.

He carved a niche for himself as a hero loved by rural folk for his native looks.

He took a sabbatical from films and entered politics, which remained his breath till he breathed his last. His demise comes as a shock to the film fraternity, which has always recognized his work. His performances in films like Kizhakku Cheemayile and Puthumai Penn is noteworthy. He was 48 years old and survived by his wife and a son. Cremation will take place at Madurai Thathaneri funeral grounds at 3 p.m. Friday, 11th January 2008. Director Bharathi Raja, actors Revathy and Khushboo are leaving for Madurai to attend the obsequies.
