Prakash Raj out of Pongal race

Prakash Raj’s home production, Duet films, has three films under various stages production. Of this lot, Vellithirai, directed by debutant Viji, featuring Prakash Raj, Prithiviraj, Gopika and Laskhmi Rai in lead roles, is nearing completion. This film is a remake of the Malayalam super hit Udhayananu Tharam, which featured Sreenivas, Mohanlal and Meena.

Vellithirai’s music, composed by G.V. Prakash Kumar, is already topping the charts for its blend of melodious and foot-tapping numbers. The movie was scheduled for release on Pongal day but now its chances appear slim. The reasons, according to sources close to the team, are pending post-production work; which is proceeding at brisk pace, and a song that remains to be canned. Moreover, that particular song is intended to be picturised abroad and hence the delay indicates sources. As soon as the song is shot the film would be ready for release, probably around the first week of February.
