The first
copy was released by Kanimozhi, Member of
Parliament and was received by actress Jyothirmayi.
Directors Balu Mahendra, Balaji Shakthivel,
Vasantha Balan and Bharathy Krishnakumar
were present at the event.
Director Balu Mahendra while speaking at
the function said Balaji Shakthivel was
one director whose work he always admired.
He even recalled the impact his earlier
film Kadhal had on him and was overawed
by the way it was filmed. He continued by
commenting on his film Kalloori but this
time he was on the negative as he opined
that he wasn’t in favor of commercializing
an infamous event such as the Dharmapuri
bus burning incident which was used as the
climax for his film. He went a step further
and drew parallels to Steven Spielberg’s
Schindler’s List which threw light
on the incidents that happened during the
holocaust but was shown in a manner that
drew public apathy, adding that the film
didn’t do well commercially but received
critical applause as it was shot in documentary
fashion. However he concluded by saying
that this opinion of his doesn’t in
anyway alter his respect and regard for
Balaji Shakthivel as a director and is eagerly
awaiting his next venture. That’s
one director who never holds himself back
when it comes to expressing his opinions
in a candid manner.
