This forced
the director to shelve the project and go
ahead with his next venture titled Poo.
Now with Srikanth having come out of the
quagmire, director Sasi has decided to include
the actor in his upcoming Poo which is set
in a village milieu. Srikanth is one of
the few actors among the younger crop who
is yet to be featured in movies set in a
rural backdrop except for Joot where he
plays a villager but again the film was
largely set in and around Chennai. When
questioned about Srikanth being cast as
a villager Sasi says that story is the main
hero in his films and he will not make any
changes in the script to boost the image
of any hero.
Sasi also adds that the film’s story
is an adaptation of a novel by Sa.Tamizh
Selvan and the director insists that he
has even received praises from the author
for his flawless adaptation which is usually
not the case when a story is being used
in a visual medium as most directors tend
to alter the script too much to suit the
audiences’ cinematic sensibilities.
Poo has Malayalam actress Parvathi making
her entry into Tamil. Let’s hope Tamil
cinema gets an honest literary adaptation.
