Kollywood these days seems to be the bastion of remakes and remixes. Adding to this recent trend, the usage of titles of old films have come in vogue with a number of old film titles being registered at the producer’s council. Further to Polladhavan and Namnadu, and Selva’s Aayirathil Oruvan, there is a bevy of new films

with old titles being registered viz. Mullum Malarum, Saval, Pallandu Vazhga, Thee, Thillu Mullu, Kaali, Idayakani, etc. An interesting observation is that most of the titles have been either M G R’s or super star’s films. Reliable sources in the industry reveal that there is a belief among film makers that these titles of the popular stars are sure to bring in success and hence the trend. This only goes on to reiterate the power of these icons.
