Biggies who missed 2007
By Behindwoods News Bureau.
January 03, 2008
Unlike previous years, in 2007, trade has reported prolific profits with hit movies setting the tone of the ever-ringing cash registers. Although 2007 saw biggies, dark horses and debutants getting a taste of success, the ticket counters at box offices were conspicuous by the absence of some significant players.
Simbu

Busy in the shoots, self-imposed sabbatical or reality shows, they managed to hog the limelight even otherwise. Not being in the theatres didn’t stop them from not being in the news. Having said that, here we present the biggies who missed the real show in 2007.

Simbu

Simbu took a delectable break and flew to the US right after his Vallavan hit the theatres. While he was away, the media was busy packing the gossip columns on news about his infamous breakup with Nayanthara. There came an array of announcement of films as soon as he arrived, however, only Kaalai and Kettavan materialized. For reasons unknown to the naked eye of an outsider, Kettavan suffered numerous obstacles and was shrouded with rumors. Having planned not to have another release in 2007, Simbu struck a lucrative deal with a private television channel to judge a reality dance show.

His Kaalai is planned for Pongal 2008 and the kick off of Silambattam is announced recently. All the while, Simbu assures that Kettavan is firmly in the pipeline.

Vikram

Last time when we saw him onscreen, he was wooing Asin and performing misdemeanors with Pasupathy as his accomplice. The movie was Maja released for Diwali 2005 – remake of the Malayalam hit Thommanum Makkalum.

Vikram was stated to be busy for the mammoth venture Bheema in 2007 – a movie that would remain etched in the memories of Vikram. If not for anything else, for the financial hurdles and myriad other grounds that prevented it from seeing the light of the day.

Vikram, however, decided to extend cooperation to Lingusamy – the director and producer A.M. Ratnam and held fast to the decision of finishing up the movie. Finishing he did thereby keeping his other offers at bay.

Not to mention, his Kanthaswamy created quite a flutter of excitement with its unique launch and Bheema is gearing up for a Pongal release.

Kamal

Kamal, the versatile star was off from the screens of 2007 after delivering a smash hit with Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu in 2006. But not without a reason. He is all set to hit the marquee in 2008 and create history with the painstakingly researched
Kamal

Dasavatharam in 10 dissimilar roles, which is on the anvil under K.S. Ravikumar’s direction. Kamal’s different get ups and Bollywood nasal crooner Himesh Reshmiyya’s music were enough to keep the movie and Kamal in the news till the cows come home in 2007.

Besides, Kamal also avoided public events for fear of revealing his looks prematurely to the media, even inadvertently.
