The screening was immediately followed by
the felicitation of Colonel Haridas, an
Indian Army officer who has served in all
the Indian border territories, by Venkat
Prabhu. Venkat Prabhu also presented mementos
for the theatre owners in the Chennai city
and other cities in Tamil Nadu, where Saroja
sustained her unrelenting run for the 100th
day.
On the occasion, Suriya mentioned that he
felt Saroja was a perfect blend of everything.
“The mix couldn’t have been
better and is superlatively done,”
he noted. Suriya also revealed that Venkat
used to be his school junior.
Veteran director KB commended Venkat Prabhu
on his work and declared he is one of the
most significant directors Tamil cinema
has ever seen. “I was at a loss of
words after watching Chennai 28. It was
like a fresh whiff of air. And he has proved
his mettle with Saroja again. I hope that
his success continues in his next venture
too. I trust him for that,” an emotional
Balachander asserted. KB presented souvenirs
to producer Siva, Venkat Prabhu and Yuvan
Shankar Raja. KB also made a note of producer
Amma Creations Siva’s administrative
skills. “If Siva stepped into the
industry during my period, I would have
put his skills to use in my movies,”
he noted.
Silambarasan revealed that he brought the
Madurai rights of Chennai 28 after being
bowled over by the movie. “I was quite
sure that Saroja would be a blockbuster
and that’s exactly what happened,”
he reminisced. He stated that Yuvan Shankar
Raja has the potential to grab the attention
of international cinema the way Rahman has
done.
Sneha, who briefly addressed the audience,
mentioned that she is spellbound by Venkat
Prabhu’s directorial skills. She also
revealed about her being a part of Venkat’s
next project Goa.
A video documentary on the late Sridhar
(Audio Engineer for renowned movies such
as Jodha Akbar, Lagaan and Dasavatharam)
was screened at the event. Sridhar, who
has worked with the biggest names in the
industry and won 4 national awards, was
a part of the Saroja crew.
The event saw participation from the who’s
who of the industry including that of directors
Dharani, K S R, Radhika Sarathkumar, Vaali
and many other noted producers and directors.
Hosted by Divyadarshini and Dheena, the
show also had dance performances by the
Maanada Mayilaada team, who performed for
the songs from Saroja.
