Paruthiveeran bagged the award under the
Forum section. The movies were segregated
under four sections: competition, forum,
talent and panorama. All films were first
showcased to the jury, then to the media
and finally to the general public.
Interestingly, of the 3000 films that took
part in the festival, 176 were selected.
Out of this lot, only 36 films were picked
out for the forum section and Paruthiveeran
emerged the winner, says a proud Ameer.
All the four shows that were screened turned
out to be houseful. This is clearly a tribute
to the Indian cinema!
Guess who Ameer has to thank for this name
and fame? It is none other than the master
storyteller Mani Ratnam. According to Ameer,
Paruthiveeran made it to the film festival
due to Mani's insistence.
It may be noted that Ameer's earlier film,
Ram, also won an award at the Cyprus film
festival under the best actor and best music
category.
