“Malayalam films don’t require six songs”

Audiences agree that Siddique’s suspense comedy, Sadhu Miranda, is a refreshing change from Kollywood’s usual preoccupation with violence and action. But many fans, including critics, have pointed out that the songs sequences here are redundant, interfering with the slick pace of the plot.... Director Siddique admitted that some of the songs may have slowed down the film’s pace,

but he was quick to point out that the six-song formula was a necessary staple in Tamil cinema. Malayalam films won’t require six songs, he added. “I intend to make the same movie in Malayalam but I won’t put in as many songs.”

Macho heroism and extravagant dance sequences are part of the Tamil movie business, he said, and producers insist that these elements form an intrinsic part of every movie. His next film will be a Malayalam film with the star Dileep, and the story won’t be as macho or violent as in Tamil. He intends to layer it with a lot of comedy. “My comedy is different”, he said, “it stems from within the plot, rather than act as a parallel comedy track.” Siddique’s future plans are to regularly alternate between making Tamil and Malayalam movies.
