Movie buffs will miss this character actor

We all know him best as the police captain in Jaws. He was nominated for an Oscar playing a cop in The French Connection. Not many people can name him right away but few can forget his lean, swarthy good-looking face with that hooked nose and deep black eyes that pierce right into you. Roy Scheider died on Sunday at age 75. He was trained in various acting

schools and often played the average man trapped in a suspenseful plot. He was amazing as the Broadway choreographer, Bob Fosse in All That Jazz. It seemed a part made for him.

Some of his most memorable films are: the business man who is blackmailed in 52 Pick Up which was a gritty adaptation of a Elmore Leonard novel, the secret agent in Marathon Man and The Russia House, and the lawyer with secrets in Last Embrace. Movie buffs across the world that appreciate character actors more than stars will certainly miss seeing this fine American actor.
