The saying goes ‘A pen is mightier
than the sword’ but with Ko making all
the headlines, should we say ‘A camera
is mightier than the sword’? It is a
known fact that KV Anand’s Ko releasing
this Friday has the lead, Jiiva playing the
role of a photo journalist. Previously, very
few actors have played memorable roles as
journalists or photo journalists. Here is
a look.
• Kamal Hassan is known to experiment
and in the film ‘Tik Tik Tik’
he played the role of a photographer who works
for a newspaper and he happens to photograph
some models during a beauty pageant conducted
by a rich industrialist. The models are murdered
and what followed was a nail biting and scary
thriller.
• Sarath Kumar played the role of an
intrepid scribe who uses his pen’s might
to stop atrocities. He is beaten up badly
but narrowly escapes death and makes sure
his effort in stopping the atrocities didn’t
go in vain.
• Sridevi was a beautiful journalist
in the film Dharma Yuddam. Despite having
Rajinikanth as her co-star Sridevi managed
to grab eye balls with the song ‘ada
poya poyya, ulagam perisu, nee oru podi dabba,
inda pena perisappa...’ which was picturised
with her.
• Madhavan played a very significant
role of the journalist Shyam Saxena in Mani
Ratnam’s movie Guru. He uses his journalistic
skills to expose Gurukant Desai’s (Abhishek
Bachchan) corrupt ways.
It is going to be a delight to see how Jiiva
achieves his goal in the film using the camera
as his weapon. KV Anand famously said, “Instead
of giving my hero an ‘aruvaal’
(sickle) I have given him a camera’.
Will Ko show that camera is as dangerous as
the sword that action heroes wield? Let’s
wait and watch!
