SPB Charan is one producer who is not afraid to take risks. His experiments with films have been quite successful and he has earned a good name for himself in the industry. The filmmaker’s latest offering, Aaranya Kaandam has landed in trouble because of the tough stance taken by the censors.
The movie which many believe to be absolutely brilliant did the Tamil film industry proud by winning the Grand Jury Award for best film at the South Asian International Film Festival. However, the movie is languishing in the cans because the censors gave it an A certificate and demanded more than 50 cuts on the grounds of profanity and graphic scenes portraying violence and substance abuse.
SPB Charan has appealed to a Tribunal in New Delhi to revoke the cuts and release the film with an A certificate. Things are moving slowly and he is caught in a bureaucratic nightmare. The latest is that no progress has been made as after the hearing the judge was replaced which means still more waiting for Charan. But he is determined not to give up. We applaud his courage!
