SURIYA’S
UNIQUE DISTINCTION |

When
you have a bird’s eye view of Tamil
cinema, various interesting factors pop
up, which, if browsed through, will help
unearth informative and intimidating variants
and if delved even deeper, will help pen
pages.
One interesting feature that tops the
factors in a movie’s success is
the chemistry between distinct variables
in it. For instance the lead pair, the
story and the music, the director and
the producer, etc. but then there is one
more noticeable new bonding that’s
been creating magic for the past two years.
Through this journey, runs an interesting
analysis of that underlying chemistry
of the latest heroes in Tamil cinema with
the three new musketeers

adorning the Tamil film industry: Sun Pictures, Cloud
Nine movies and Red Giant Movies hailing
from the first family of the ruling regime
of Tamil Nadu. Reasons may vary for the multi-preferences
amongst them, but the highlight is what is touched
upon after a gradual drive through.
Sun Pictures is one production house that has made
history in the small screen and after more than a
decade, catapulted into the tinsel world. After etching
clear landmarks in the living rooms of millions of
viewers, Sun Pictures finally hit the silver screens
in 2008 through the movie Kadhalil Vizhundhen’s
distribution. Later, they started taking up distribution
of low budget films which certainly proved a magic
wand to the directors who were otherwise struggling
with great stories just for the want of the financial
support. Their trendsetting beat, be it the small
or silver screen has never waned, instead it is soaring
to Tsunamic heights especially with their latest production,
the towering blockbuster Endhiran, touching a new
high. Suriya has acted in Ayan, distributed by Sun
pictures and Singam, a box office hit, produced by
the same.
Dayanidhi Azhagiri’s Cloud Nine Movies is into
Tamil film production and distribution since 2008.
Their first distribution was director Gautham Menon’s
Vaaranam Aayiram with Suriya in the lead role released
in 2008. That was an inspiring impact for a debut
distributor to pace ahead confidently. Then followed
Paiyaa a romantic-action film and Naan Mahaan Alla,
the spine chilling thriller both with Karthi in the
lead, which were good samples showcasing their success
in distribution. Ajith is cast in Mankatha, which
is under production.
Their latest production Ratha Charithram, which is
set for a November release, has Suriya in the lead.
Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Red Giant movies’
first venture Kuruvi had Vijay in the lead. The next
venture Aadhavan featured Suriya in it. It was a Diwali
Dhamaka which instilled more confidence that Red Giant
can climb higher. As they say the first lucky touch,
Gilli too had Vijay in it and its considered Udhayanidhi’s
favourite till now. Udhayanidhi after watching Madrasapattinam
went in for the next film Boss engira Baskaran too.
Then was it some calculation based on the lead cast
Arya? Vinnaithandi Varuvaaya, a mega box office hit
had Simbhu play the lead.
We see the top stars of today like Vijay, Ajith, Karthi
and Arya feature in either of the three banners. Whatever
be the defining point in selecting the movies, for
distribution or production, one interesting fact that
cannot be missed or just brushed aside is the presence
of Suriya in some venture or the other of all three
houses.
Actor Suriya, the heartthrob of teenagers trying out
new roles to avoid being cocooned into the shell of
a particular character, confidently tries any genre
and gracefully transforms himself into the character.
A particular production house may go in for any hero
film after film maybe trusting that the success lies
in their synergy but it’s surprising that there
is one lead star who seems to be the darling of all
the three fast growing new tinsel banners.
Suriya has the distinction of featuring in the productions
of all these three emerging production houses whose
interest to indulge in the silver screens has evolved
simultaneously in all three. These young next gen
producers are creating magic in the celluloid industry.
Today, Suriya, the rising star for sure, is stirring
thousands of teenage hearts but what needs mention
is that he has captivated the three young bigwigs
of Tamil cinema production industry too. The latest
Ratha Charithram in pipeline proves that the crush
for Suriya is on, be it the producer or the viewer.
