Google's CEO Sundar Pichai, during an interaction with the students of IIT Kharagpur, said that he had thought Gmail was an April Fool's joke, during his interview and that he had realised its authenticity, only halfway through the interview process. "I was interviewed in Google on April 1, 2004, which is April Fool's Day, and Google had just announced Gmail, and it was invite only, but people still weren't sure if it was an April Fool's joke." He also added that the rest of his interview saw him talking about how Gmail could be improved upon.
