London-based researchers have presented geological evidence of Britain's separation from mainland Europe. During the ice age, the Dover Strait would have been a rock ridge connecting Britain to France in the English Channel. The strait connecting Dover in the UK and Calais in France opened up in two sections, where an original lake spill was followed by catastrophic flooding.
