The Supreme Court has reportedly sent a notice to the Union of India over the deadline to deposit the demonetised Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 currency notes. The apex court has reportedly asked the government why the people should not deposit the scrapped currency notes till March end. Notably, the government had said that people could deposit the notes at local RBI offices till March 31, 2017, when it scrapped the notes in November 2016.
