The Supreme Court, on Monday, has reportedly allowed a woman from Maharashtra to undergo abortion of an underdeveloped foetus in her 24th week of pregnancy. Under section 5 of the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, 1971, a foetus can be aborted after 20 weeks of pregnancy only if there is a grave danger to the life of a mother. Notably, the 22-year-old woman was permitted after a board of specialists recommended abortion.
