India’s Sania Mirza on Saturday won the year-opening Brisbane International title with partner American Bethanie Mattek-Sands, defeating the Russian pair of Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina. Mirza and Mattek-Sands won the match in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. Meanwhile, Mirza, who has been number 1 in the WTA rankings for 91 weeks, lost the top spot to her partner after the win.
