Parliament has reportedly passed the Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Bill, 2016 on Thursday extending the paid maternity leave for working pregnant women to 26 weeks from the existing 12 weeks. According to reports, the bill, which was earlier passed in the Rajya Sabha in August 2016, has now been passed by the Lok Sabha. Notably, the bill also allowed 12 weeks of leave for the third child.
