New OBC bill an “attack on the federal character”: Opposition

Calling it an “attack on the federal character of the constitution”, the opposition blamed certain provisions of OBC bill during the discussion in Lok Sabha on Thursday. The provisions that seek to provide constitutional backing to the National Commission for Socially and Educationally Backward Classes will take away the power of the states, alleged the opposition. Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge and Biju Janata Dal member Bhartruhari Mahtab demanded the bill be sent to a standing committee and try to find a consensus.
