NASA is working on laser communication technology that could become the high-speed ‘internet’ of the sky by enabling much higher data rates for communications between spacecraft and Earth. Laser communications are also known as optical communications which encode data onto a beam of light then transmitted between spacecraft and eventually to the earth terminal.
