Doss, a 30-year-old manual scavenger reportedly died on Wednesday in Chennai due to asphyxiation. According to reports, Doss was attempting to rescue a co-worker trapped inside a sewage pipeline in Mogappair East. The rescued co-worker, Ramachandran, is being treated at Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital. Notably, the practice of manual scavenging has been banned by the Indian government.
