INS Viraat the aircraft carrier which holds the world record for oldest surviving aircraft carrier in the world was retired from service on Monday. Notably, the Government of India bought the aircraft carrier for Rs.433 crore, 27 years after it served the United Kingdom’s Royal Navy. The INS viraat first commissioned in the Indian Navy on May 12, 1987.
