Survey of India, the country's oldest scientific organisation, was set up on January 29, 1767, ten years before the United States was born. The organisation is reportedly the official map maker for India and keeps records of the exact international borders of the country. Notably, SOI accurately estimated the exact height of the Mount Everest in 1855.
