The Centre announced the list of 20 cities selected for the Smart Cities project. Chennai and Coimbatore have been chosen in the list, which includes major cities like Bhubaneswar, Pune, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, New Delhi and Bhopal among others. The project has been allotted an overall budget of Rs 48,000 crore for five years for developing infrastructure, water and power supply, waste management, IT connectivity, public transportation etc. in the cities.
