'Finding Fanny' has been in the news all along for its powerhouse cast encompassing the present and the past, its two delightful songs and for the fact that it is a rare English language film from India - the land of Bollywood and many more regional 'woods'

An undelivered letter sets in motion a purposeful road trip featuring five characters who are all different from one another in every possible manner. This trip turns out to be one of realization, discovery and fulfillment, with love being the underlying emotion all along.

The sensibility of 'Finding Fanny' is all Western and the movie is similar in spirit to 'Little Miss Sunshine', a benchmark among 'road-trip' movies, where the characters experience life-changing events during the journey.

'Finding Fanny' offers us all manner of humor - be it the quirky one or slapstick or the mild adult kind. There isn't shortage of poignant moments too and at the end of it all, we are bound to feel good with the way it all resolves. The film doesn't seem to be in any hurry to get going and its pace is relaxed, much like the Goan way of living. But the action is all wrapped up in around 100 minutes.

The cast makes it work big time, with each one of them making a mark. Deepika Padukone looks angelic as Angie and her sweet voice is so soothing on the ear. Her long limbs are accentuated by her short skirts and sleeveless tops and she carries it off with her typical confidence. And in the prelude and aftermath of the love making scene with Arjun Kapoor, Deepika is all class. Handsome hunk Arjun holds his own amid all the experienced performers around and his new makeover is a winner. This young lead pair's chemistry is bound to be a favourite in the coming years.

But it is the trio of thespians who make Finding Fanny what it is, starting from Pankaj Kapur as a famed painter who lusts on the big, self-obsessed Dimple Kapadia to Naseerudin Shah as the veteran Romeo in search of his lost love. Dimple shows that she is still a 'bomb' on screen and her attitude is exemplary. The camera has feasted on her, due to the requirements of the script, but not for one moment does it look vulgar.

All the actors pass the English diction test with flying colors and the movie feels very natural as a result.

The Konkan coast is a delight for any cinematographer thanks to its lush and fertile landscape, and Anil Mehta has exploited this canvas to the core, to present some simple yet striking visuals in Finding Fanny. Mathias Duplessy's soundtrack is aptly soaked in Goan flavor.

Targeted at a very niche audience base, Finding Fanny should work wonders with the upmarket crowd.
Verdict: A quirky, feel-good tale
