When everyone is going gaga
over Unnaipol Oruvan, why am
I scribbling about ‘A
Wednesday’? To show I
am different from others? Never!
Exactly a year before, when
the film was on the theatres,
I didn't feel like giving it
a chance as I was looking forward
to Tahaan because of Santhosh
Sivan. Then positive reviews
came from all over about ‘a
Wednesday’, but it was
out from theatres when I thought
of seeing. So I bought the DVD
(Thanks to Moserbaer) only to
place in my wardrobe (In fact
I didn't even open the DVD wrapper)
Finally today when my room mates
were getting ready for Unnaipol
Oruvan I decided to try the
original first.
I was almost speechless and
the movie completely took my
breath away. With no mood to
sleep, I kept wandering from
my hall to bedroom with my mind
rewinding the scenes. I have
never felt that way after watching
a movie.
The way the movie gets into
the flashback through Anupam
Kher's narration itself is a
classic attempt of story telling.
The lightning pace screenplay,
brilliant execution of the scenes,
well matured dialogues (e.g.
they have asked the questions
on Friday and Saturday. I am
just replying to them on Wednesday)
and amazing performances (in
the descending order) by Naseeruddin
Shah (Simply unbelievable performance!!!),
Anupam Kher and Jimmy Shergill
make the movie one of the best
ever in Indian cinema. Above
all, the director's brilliance
was clearly evident in the way
he handled the characterization
of two cops (Raj & Arif).
Instead of abruptly linking
them with the
