Love is the subject, which has a sophisticated place in each end every Tamil film, whether its an art film or a commercial film. Nobody can imagine a Tamil film without LOVE scenes. But how far a film impresses or makes chemical changes in the mind receptors of movie lovers for the past 50 years?

Think TAJMAHAL! Immediately one's mind thinks Shahjahan also. Its an involuntary action. Last week I went to Agra and I sat in front of TAJMAHAL for an hour. I got excited not only seeing the beauty of Taj Mahal, but also about SHAJAHAN. What made SHAJAHAN, to build such a wonderful monument? Not only LOVE but his creative and innovative mind too. Plenty of kings and rich merchants had been living in that era. Plenty of love tales were there too....But everybody had no such creative innovative idea.... Like that if we think love subjects in Tamil cinema, suddenly our mind signals catch the works of few directors who were involved in creating the marvelous outstanding love tales... Because creation and innovation are the breath and life of a good director.

The creator's stupendous efforts are behind there in each and every wonders or structures in this world.

Here are the SEVEN WONDERS in Tamil cinema for the past 50 years portraying unadulterated LOVE... I know, I am not incorrect!
MANI RATNAM

1. SRIDHAR
2. K.BALACHANDER
3. BHARATHIRAJA
4. BALU MAHENDRA
5. MANI RATNAM
6. BALA
7. GAUTHAM VASUDEV MENON.

These directors had given all types of movies like thriller, family drama, social issues movies, comedy, etc etc.. But the portrayal of Love in their Cinemas is extra ordinary, so that no one can beat them in this aspect.

1. SRIDHAR: The film VENNIRA AADAI, in 1960's made a very strong wave in inner hearts of the movie lovers . The rich Heroine [Patient] has fallen in love with the Hero [Doctor] and doctor could not accept the Love, because he had a love affair with another poor girl. It is a triangular love story. But in the climax the heroine, even though she had recovered from mentally ill health status, sacrifices her love for the sake of the lover's first love. The twist in the climax made the viewers shocking and it was a non forgettable climax.

2. K.BALACHANDER: EK DUJE KE LIYE, or MARO CHARITHRA even though those films were in Hindi and Telugu versions, directed by our K.B and acted by a Tamil actor, it made a huge victory in early 1980s even among Tamil audience all over Tamil Nadu. Here the love pair struggled a lot till the end. Lot of obstacles from parental side, rich poor variation, mother tongue variation etc.etc. They overcame all the obstacles at one stage and finally in climax, the heroine was raped by a gang unfortunately and the true love pair takes the heart breaking decision in the last scene.

3. BHARATHIRAJA: This village Raja narrated the Love story in a different way in 16 VAYATHINILE during 1980s. The heroine here has refused the real love of ugly looking hero, till she was in the position of insecurity and lot of failures she faced in her carrier. At one stage she realized and accepted the true love. But in climax, the hero made a murder to rescue the heroine from the villain. And it was like a poetic tale, in last scene, the heroine was waiting for her love pair, in a railway station for so many years....

4. BALU MAHENDRA : In MOONDRAM PIRAI , the love was narrated in a different angle. The heroine was in dementia, and the hero had taken care of that girl with out any expectations, except having real love in his inner heart. In climax what happened, the hero's real love was unnoticed by the heroine and the never before heart touching scene was portrayed in last scene. Nobody could leave the seat without shedding a single drop of tear there.

5. MANI RATNAM: In 1990s , MOUNA RAAGAM. It was a simple realistic love story, where the heroine, after the death of her lover, due to circumstances got married with another soft natured guy. And the love between them was portrayed in well shaped manner with sharp dialogues. Here the director portrayed a real love of the couple, even though she had an initial affair with another guy. So ..Love never ends.

6. BALA: 21st century Love in SETHU. The hero, such a lovable guy, becomes mad after the breaking of love. In this film the style and possessiveness of the hero, and the real fear due to the family background of heroine was portrayed fantastically and in climax, yet another heart breaking tale.

7. GAUTHAM MENON; VINNAI THAANDI VARUVAAYA , another heart touching script, where everybody especially urban society sees the film's story as their own. Repeated love attempts done here by the hero, at last, she too falls for it. Lot of obstacles as everybody expects. But both having true love in their inner mind, even though they meet after several years. Yeah I am talking about, Telugu version of VTV. That too directed by Gautham, so that he deserves to join in the list of above said wonderful creators.

Nobody can direct a love story without touching the concepts of above mentioned films. Love in adolescence, Love during studies, Love beyond languages, Love beyond ages, Love beyond religions and castes, Love among rich- poor, Love against parental forces, Run away from home on behalf of love, Love among soft -rough pair, Love after marriage, Love after the death of the previous lover, Love among mentally ill beings, Love in Village , Love beyond external appearance and beauty, Love in urban society, Happiness of Love, Love and ego, Love and romance, Love and kiss, Love and quarrel, Love and separation, Love and travel, Love and secret meets, Pain of Love, Love failure, Attempting suicide for Love, Love after effects, Sacrificial in Love, One way Love, Triangular Love, Tragedy in Love, --- all these properties are well mixed in above said films.

What else one needs, to enjoy a realistic love story in cinema?

What else one needs to accept those legends as SEVEN WONDERS in creating love tales?
