I'm
writing to inform you that the
National Award winning Tamil
movie, Sringaram, was screened
in Sydney today. Who said Tamil
audiences appreciation towards
artistic movies is very low?
The movie was supposed to run
only for a single screening
in Sydney, but the audience
demanded additional screenings.
And due to houseful shows, Sringaram
was screened several times at
the prestigious Adelaide Festival
this year. The Adealide festival
is a major Australian Arts festival
Sringaram is directed by Sharada
Ramanathan, and tells the story
of a Devadasi temple dancer
in search of her identity, and
her discovery of emancipation.
This elegant and contemporary
presentation of a tradition-bound
India of the 1920s is a glorious
mélange of stunning visuals
and magnificent music. "Sringaram
is a gentle exploration of love
in all its hues - physical,
emotional and spiritual".
