THE NEW ENTRY IN THE AWARD RACE!!

The story of this film is set in the 1960's in a remote village of Tamilnadu, a land where about 75 families work in brick furnace. The hero of this film is a teacher appointed by Grama Seva Sangh to educate the children of this village. The heroine runs a tea shop in that village. At first the villagers criticize the teacher and refuse to make their children learn. Their plan was to make the children work in the furnace to make more money. The over smart village kids play pranks with the teacher. The hero decides to leave that village. But after seeing the ignorance of the villagers, he decides to stay in the village .The hero warns about the cheat furnace owner to the workers. After realizing this the villagers allow the children to learn. They were interested in learning alphabets and numbers. Seeing this, the furnace owner plans to send the hero out of the village. The arrogant owner now locks horn with the hero, but is saved by the opposite group of the furnace owner. Meanwhile, the hero gets a Government job and he promises them that he will come back again. But something stops him and he is back to village for teaching them again. But again a twist occurs as the Grama Seva sends a notice that they cannot afford for salary. Now the villagers come together paying him from their petty earning  Hats off to director Sargunam for making a thought provoking film which is beautiful, complete and laced with social consciousness.

There are some beautiful scenes like conveying Love through Radio (Naan Pesa Ninaipadhallem) and the scene is done at best. It’s something more off a different attempt by director Sargunam. The first half of the film is that it involves the ambience of 1960s’ village. It’s like taking us back to the past with a different ambience delivered in ‘Madarasapattinam’. But the film gains momentum during second half as more conflicts pop – like- the girl is in love and the protagonist doesn’t understand, the problems undergone by the protagonist due to the baddies and whether he comes back to the village or not for educating them.

TRAILER OF VSV:

This film has powerful performances by Vimal (teacher), Iniya (teashop girl), K.Bhagyaraj(hero's dad), Kumaravelu(kurivikaarar), Thambi Ramaiyah (248) and many debut character artists and the smart kids. When it comes to performance, actress Iniya deserves a ton of appreciations as her facial expressions and body language are outstanding. Maybe, it’s time for her to win some nominations for ‘Best Actress 2011’.

The crew has worked hard to deliver us an all new visual experience of a village in the sixties .The usage of CG in some of the scenes is very realistic. The art direction is perfect and is a major plus. Cinematographer Om Prakash and debut music director Ghibran 's strong visual and background score have worked very hard to bring the director's dream on screen.

On the whole, ‘Vaagai Sooda Vaa’ offers a different experience for the film buffs, who are regularly watching action packed masala films. Director Sargunam deserves special appreciations for maintaining his status that he earned with his debut directorial ‘Kalavani’.

This film will join the national award race with the expected nominations for the year 2011 from Tamil cinema Aaranya Kaandam (direction and music), Avan Ivan (vishal), Deivathirumagal (Vikram), Engeyum Eppodhum (best film on social awareness).

Genere: semi period-romantic-comical-social drama

Message from the film: stop child labor system!!  Education is very essential for every child

Bottom line: a class film for the class audience of Tamil cinema.

MY RATING : 4.5 on 5
