This
may not be entirely new, but I think it
is certainly necessary. While dubbing
is quite useful as it brings thoughts
and ideologies from all around the world
to people in their own language, it certainly
needs more sincerity. Let us just take
a look at all the movies that have been
dubbed in Tamil in the recent past. Most
of them are B grade English movies (some
Chinese monster movies) which are titled
weird, sometimes funny with no sense of
purpose whatsoever other than making money.
With titles that sound amazingly sleazy
and captions much worse, the standard
of dubbing movies keeps getting worse
with each passing day!
I just couldn't believe the promotion
for Rajaleelai with its pathetic tag lines
that made me laugh for quite some time!!!
The titles are getting worse, dialogues
are supposed to lose its impact while
translating, but come on... does it have
to be this stereotypical and contrived?
Somehow they manage to put up a fake accent
in these movies which sort of ruins the
whole experience. Is expecting a worthy
dubbing too much? I just hope they don't
dub movies like Schindler's list or Shawshank
Redemption. I cannot imagine Mr. Schindler
put up a Chennai accent!!! Lots of horror
movies from Hindi, English and other languages
are released in Tamil and promoted as
a sleazy film which is annoying to say
the least.
With all this going on, I wonder why movies
don't get released with Tamil subtitles
rather. We've

seen movies such as 'Vettaiyaadu Vilayaadu' and 'Vinnaithaandi
Varuvaayaa' use extensive amount of subtitles which
didn't hinder the movie's progress in anyway! Let
it be 3 idiots or My name is Khan; these movies deserve
to be seen by everyone. I did see lot of non Hindi
speaking people in the screening of these movies,
but it would open quite a lot of gates if they had
subtitles. Swades did not work as DESAM. I'm not sure
whether Krrish worked in Tamil either. Taking all
these into considerations, I would really love to
see lot of English and Hindi movies getting released
in Tamil Nadu with subtitles so that everyone can
enjoy the movie lot better!!!!
