Having heard from a few friends that there is a new movie called "Aaranya Kandam" which is worth watching, I decided to watch the movie. Moments into the movie, I was spellbound. The consistently intelligent dialogues give you enough evidence of the caliber of the writer who is also the director of the movie. The movie might become a hit or a flop commercially, but has definitely left a mark which will be remembered and talked about for a very long time. Sampath, Jackie Shroff and Ravi Krishna were the only 3 actors who I could recognize and the others are debut artists which is tough to believe. The performance of every actor in the movie is superb which is truly assisted by the quality of dialogues and screenplay.
The director of the movie is the real hero for giving us such a wonderful movie which will stay in the minds of the viewers for a very long time. The producer SPB Charan has to be lauded for having faith in the debut director and the movie, apparently the movie had fought against the cuts demanded by the censor and has walked off with its head held high. The screenplay and the dialogues were truly a highlight for the movie, but the silent killer is the background music, thanks to Yuvan Shankar Raja. The BGMs were truly uplifting and the feel and mood of the movie is rightly depicted through the BGM and the lighting. Every other movie in Tamil these days releases with a 'difference' tag - only to disappoint, this is one such movie which will leave you stunned and wanting for more. Almost everything about the movie seems right, though the movie is not made for everyone and the makers seem to have made their mind on the audience it was targeted at. The dialogues in the movie hit the bull’s eye on most occasions and thanks to the movie, a new definition is given for being a Rajni fan or a Kamal fan with funny intentions.
At the end of the movie, it felt like watching a Hollywood flick and one can draw comparisons against pulp fiction and the likes, but in reality, the movie carries its weight and manages to rip off every attempt to demean the credibility of the movie and in turn the writer. Aaranya Kandam is a movie which will keep you enthralled through out and when the movie comes to an end, you will definitely feel like having witnessed a Wasim Akram's Yorker on Middle stump.
