Dear
GVP,
At first Madrasapattinam was one of a
kind movie set in 1940s. A unique script
in which within the cry for freedom struggle
blossoms a love. Kudos for the team for
their effort! The movie was technically
sound. However leaving all that back,
lets come to music, well we can even cut
short it to background score specifically.
Yes from my childhood I have had a special
ear for background scores. And I have
to say that Madraspattinam was a treat.
For a movie like Madrasapattinam the score
had to be on par with the movie in authenticity
and effectiveness, and well it does. I
really cannot evaluate a movie score musically,
it is just what I listen and the visual
experience. You can see many people humming
the songs of the movie that they just
saw. But you very often don't see people
humming the score of the movie that they
just saw. Well the score of Madrasapattinam
does that.
What does GVP do being one of the budding
young musicians of Tamil cinema, being
tagged as AR Rahman's nephew under heavy
expectations from the audience and movies
in different genres? Compose authentic
and spell binding music. Yes be it Aayirathil
Oruvan or Madrasapattinam GVP excels.
I have been listening to you from your
debut and you seem to be raising your
bar each time. I really want to thank
you heart-fully for the authenticity and
effectiveness of your score in Madrasapattinam. The
score in Madrasapattinam was versatile
and engaging. I am in awe of your versatility
at this young age. |

What
kind of a score does a movie like Madrasapattinam
requires? The score needs to be diverse, you need
to compose patriotic tunes for the climax as well
as compose dappankuthu for the wrestling scene and
also do a waltz for the party. Only a very few composers
can pull it of. And GVP does it with ease. I think
even Hans Zimmers and James Horners' would be in
awe of the versatility of the Indian composers.
Indian composers have a great challenge ahead, that
is a score which is true to the script as well as
capture the audience with versatility. And GVP has
handled such challenges with the movie. And what
does the music score of Madrasapattinam do to elevate
the movie to a greater height. Yes I really can
see how the score in the chasing scene during the
Independence has helped the script.
I only have a few suggestions GVP. Keep signing
movies with different genres and compose such soulful
and authentic scores. I have a selected database
of good background scores from Tamil movies. And
Madraspattinam is no doubt getting into that database
to join the league with scores like Nayagan, Thalapathi,
Bombay and likes. And few more requests. I always
liked to have separate themes in soundtracks, like
"Celebration of life" in AO and the Love
and the dance theme in Madrasapattinam. Treat us
with more such themes and scores. And may be you
can have a website with your scores, so we could
quench our thirst for music scores. As I type this
email I cannot stop humming to the love theme in
Madrasapattinam. GVP Keep rocking.
Thank you
Yours Faithful
