Hi Folks,
Subject: Robot (Endhiran) Hindi Version
- Milton Keynes, United Kingdom
This brief is in continuation to my
earlier column on Endhiran (Tamil version)
published:
As soon as we watched Endhiran (Tamil)
on Thursday First day first show at
Milton Keynes, we decided to make this
a special weekend by enjoying Hindi
version. Key reasons were to: Sit and
relax the movie given all scenes are
fully known via Tamil version experience
on Thursday, enjoy visual effects once
again in theatre, specially Climax effect
– dragon, Eiffel tower, sphere
etc. formations. British Board Film
certification website has stated Robot
(Hindi) running time as 174m 32s &
Endhiran (Tamil) version as 165m 38s
[was keen to see what extra scenes in
Hindi version – couldn’t
find any in the flow though], Enjoy
songs picturization etc.
Quality of Hindi dubbing was very good.
My guess is, Anil Kapoor must have dubbed
voice for Rajini. Whomsoever it is,
job really well done. Lip syncing was
nice although a Tamil to Hindi dubbing.
ARR song quality (wordings) in Hindi
looks exquisite. At Cineworld, parallel
Tamil version was running to packed
house. Hindi version marketing in Overseas
sector may require further impetus (may
look extensive trailer advertisement
via B4U, Zee channels, if not done already);

In UK, winter has arrived early and generally with
shortening days, it can get depressing at times.
What is key about Endhiran is the happy vibes it
has spread all around. Certainly it has brought
lots of cheers this weekend in our household. In
my observation, Avatar created such happiness throughout
world (obviously given English language, it had
world-wide reach). Endhiran has matched that publicity
within its reach to applicable audience.
Shankar’s 10 years dream has become reality
and it is heartening to see, this effort has brought
out potential of various departments that has combined
to get the final output to screen (agreed Animatronics
area already has made its name – Stanwinston
studios) – Visual Effects by Indian Artists
Pvt ltd team. If I saw the title credit properly,
Stunts, Make-up, photography, dance, mechanical
aspects, art, costumes (stunning colors in Kilimanjaro
song and throughout for that matter), editing, sound
effects, locations, production management must have
been an experience for Sun Pictures and they are
continuing to amaze with right utilization of Sun
TV reach to keep viewers tied-up via various functions,
script management, direction management, audio (songs,
audio), lighting etc. (list would go on and on......).
It is amazing to see how many have worked hard in
the background to realize this dream of “Shankar
– Direction Super Star”.
India has successfully established itself as a destination
for Software outsourcing. Success of Endhiran/Robot
in Media & Entertainment industry looks to have
opened opportunities for areas like Visual effects
(office based work). Key is preparing case-study
to explore outsourcing Hollywood work to India.
I am certain, if marketed rightly, opportunities
would open up.
Making of Endhiran/Robot DVD: Most awaited output
from Shankar & team. It would be great to hear
views of various people from different departments
that have contributed to this output. There may
be many unsung heroes who would come to light.
There were various opinions heard like – There
cannot be another movie like Endhiran/Robot anymore
in Indian cinema etc. Also, Rajini to retire from
movies on high etc. Endhiran/Robot should be seen
as an excellent beginning for sci-fi movies of this
grandeur. Rajini’s new dimension in acting
is witnessed in Endhiran/Robot. We need to take
a look at Amitabh Bachchan, Sean Connery, Jack Nicholson,
Gregory Peck et al. Never know what exciting characters/roles
writers/directors may come up with. We can only
wish that Rajini keeps acting.........
Best Wishes,
DLN
