The
new superstar punchline is nothing like
ever before.....Speed: One Terahertz,
Memory: One Zettabyte...Dot
Personally for me, the adage "First
Impression is the best impression"
now stands shattered. I liked....no LOVED
Endhiran better the second time. No it
was not just Rajni, not just the songs,
and not just the graphics. It was the
experience. You got to hand it to Shankar
for whipping up a desi flavored Robot
in such a convincing fashion. You can
ask a hundred questions about the logic,
plausibility and possibility of the script
but you cannot escape it. Shankar delivers
his mega vision through Rajni and the
best you can do is to keep breathing.
Because, Endhiran can suck you in with
its audacity and grandeur.
We all know the story so I am not going
to talk about this in the review but be
true to myself as a critic and analyze
the movie....sorry the "experience".
Rajni.......our superstar, thalaivar....whatever
you want to call the man. if you grew
up in the 80s and 90s, 9/10 times Rajni
is our demi-god. No two ways about it.
But to see him "Perform" like
this, my god all superlatives seem to
be on vacation. He is subtle and real
as Vaseegaran and rocks as Chitti. While
the negative Chitti is the most talked
about character, it is the innocent Chitti
v 1.0 that steals and melts your heart
completely. Yes, |

Kamal might have performed the role better, SRK might
have pulled it off but none other than the Superstar
could have given the role its required simplicity.
There are so many scenes that stay in your hearts
even after a couple of days. Without further ado,
here is my list of favorite and not so favorite moments
of the experience (Not that it matters).
Super Moments: (As they appear in the movie) (No Spoilers
so read on)
1. "Walk like me" scene where Dr.V commands
the Robot to walk like him and the Robot imitates
the classic thalaivar walk. Cute touch
2. Whats your Address? asks the corrupt traffic officer
to which Chitti replies "I have only IP address
198.0.2.1"
3. Question about God scene when Dr. V introduces
Chitti to the scientific community? BRILLIANT SIMPLICITY
4. Bohra rejecting Chitti by demonstrating his weakness.
Well conceived
5. Chitti questioning "95 decibels too loud...who
is that Chellatha" HILARIOUSLY Executed by the
superstar
6. Dr.V realizing for the first time that Chitti has
feelings...Nice one
7. Chitti competing with Dr. V for Sana and the subsequent
dance at Sana B Day party
8. Dr. V breaking down Chitti after Chitti fails his
military evaluation
9. Chitti v 2.0 scenes with Sana in captive
10. Chitti v 2.0 catching Dr. V in the crowd of Robots.......YOU
CAN SEE "Nettrikan" Rajni here
10a. Climax graphics are of high quality. Truly a
experience
11. Final Final scene....with the background verses
"Karuvil pirantha ellam marikkum...Aarivil piranthathu
maripatheillai"...Robot 2 coming up ?
Not-so-good moments:
1. Some sequences where Chitti saves people from fire...graphics...so
so seems rushed
2. Chitti delivers baby....good thought but the graphics
are a let down here
3. Chitti v2.0 chase after kidnapping Ash. I personally
felt the chase a bit dragging and actually unwanted.
4. Kadhal Anukkal and Kilimanjaro songs seem a little
out of place given Shankar's reputation. The songs
themselves were awesome
5. Climax seems to be graphics oriented. If it had
some content, it would have been meatier. No complaints
though.
6. Weak characterization of Danny, Santhanam and Karunas.
Good actors underutilized.
These are just my musings but by all means go and
enjoy the spectacle in theaters and you will not regret
it. Worth every Rs or cent or whatever currency you
are using.
To Sun pictures, Shankar and his entire team, the
actors and especially the Superstar, THANKS for the
experience. We will cherish this for a long time.
Hollywood has a "Post-Avatar" syndrome.....it
is "Post-Robot" for us. What more can Rajni
do? What more can Shankar do? Lets wait and watch.
Thanks,
Vijay Nandakumar
