Hi,
Over the years many path breaking
and brilliant movies have been
made in the Indian film industry.
Some of these movies were on
par if not better than the efforts
from the west. This was and
continues to be pleasing to
me an avid Indian cinema buff.
It just goes on to show that
with proper story and good direction
coupled with great music, we
can be in awe and inspired by
our very own product. But my
question today is why do some
Indians have to behave pathetically
and make an effort to curb the
artistic and creative thinking
of directors?
Today I read with disgust on
Behindwoods that a case was
being filed against the movie
Slumdog Millionaire. Even though
I haven't watched the movie
as it has not been released
here in Singapore, I was very
proud that it received recognition
from the west and swept 4 awards
at the recently held Golden
Globes. This is not the first
time that we see cases being
filed against good, path-breaking
movies. In recent times, Dasavatharam
too went through similar wrangles.
The more I look at it, I begin
to see a pattern unfolding.
When a good movie gets recognised
it would generally also mean
that the profits from box-office
receipts would be high. With
this happening, it seems like
some unscrupulous people are
looking to earn a quick buck
by filing court cases. This
would eventually hinder creative
output from the many good directors
we have.
For a change why not take up
cases against some directors
who portray nothing but blood
and sleaze in their movies?
Well this you can't due to the
fact that movies with too much
violence, blood and sleaze don't
generate much profits as they
are rejected downright by the
viewing public. |

Yes cinema is a world of make
believe that intends to entertain
but when people begin taking
things personal, it just ruins
the purpose of cinema. We never
see anyone in the west taking
up cases against movies but
it is only in India that we
see this trend and it is a shame
that we do not embrace the changes
but instead look into ways of
stifling it. People of India,
stop this pathetic attitude
and please grow up!!!
