CAST: Vikram, Sara, Anushka, Amala Paul, Santhanam Direction: A.L. Vijay Vijay has done it again. If Madarsapattinam made you sit up and take notice of the young man then Deiva Thirumagal should place him among the most promising directors in the country. Combining with Vikram the duo has come up with one of the most endearing movies to have ever graced the screen of Tamil cinema. As Vijay himself has accepted that the Hollywood movie "I am Sam" was the source of inspiration behind Deiva Thirumagal it is disheartening to see people make hue and cry over the credibility of the movie. Plot: Deiva Thirumagal celebrates the love between a mentally challenged father and his 5 year old daughter. For Krishna(Vikram) the whole world is his daughter Nila (played by Sara). With the help of people around him Krishna manages to raise his daughter till she is 5 years old. All is well up to now when Nila's grandfather takes her into his custody. From then on it is the battle between the rich and the powerful on one side and Krishna along with lawyer Anuradha (played by Anushka) on the other. The emotional drama culminates into a stunning climax that is sure to make your eyes moist. Performance: If you thought Vikram had done it all before then wait till you watch this one. The actor stuns you with his portrayal of the mentally challenged Krishna. He never goes overboard and it is difficult to even think of anyone else who could have pulled this one off. Not far behind is the little angel Sara who plays Nila. The film works big time due to the sparkling chemistry between the two. Anushka looks refreshing and comes up with a neat and dignified portrayal. Wish this talented actress is given more such roles in the future. Amala Paul is also convincing. Santhanam seems to be growing with each film and it is good to see him as a part of the main narrative. There is also a huge supporting cast and all of them have done a commendable job. Nirav's camera captures the mood of the film perfectly. More than the songs it is G.V.Prakash's background score that stays with you. His rerecording for the climax sequence deserves special mention. Bottomline: Kudos to Vijay and his team. Deiva Thirumagal is a landmark film in Tamil cinema that ought not to be missed. Watch it for Krishna and Nila. They shall be etched in your memory forever.
