Kurinji
Malar blossoms only once in 12 years and
similar to that you get a chance to watch
a movie like “Angadi Theru”…..
Story is about life of people working
in a store in our famous Ranganathan steet,
Chennai.
Mahesh [New face] comes from Southern
part of TN to work in a store due to his
family situations. Though he comes school
first in his Class 12th exams, he is unable
to have his higher education. He along
with his friend comes to Chennai with
a group of people from TN to work in the
store. They meet Anjali [Heroine of “Katradhu
Tamizh”] also working in the same
store.
First meeting starts a tug of war between
the two, when each one tries to pull each
other which is funny. But Mahesh feels
guilty in a situation when Anjali is treated
badly by the supervisor. Days pass by
and both fall in love with each other.
In the mean time another couple in love
is caught by the store management and
a heated discussion makes that girl commit
suicide. This impacts both Anjali and
Mahesh, but still they are in love.
Unfortunately on a day they both are caught
on CCTV video when they sing a song and
dance inside the store and store management
treats both in an inhuman way which makes
you feel very bad and you realize tears
on your eyes. Later both decide to get
away from the store and search job outside
and walk along the roadside. What happens
finally is told with a riveting climax
which is shocking …!!!!

Mahesh – Unbelievable to say that he is a new
face. Credit goes to director Vasantha Balan for extracting
such a good performance from a new face.
Anjali – I was totally impressed with her performance
when I saw “Katradhu Tamizh” few years
back. In this movie, it is more matured and terrific
performance by her. She does well in both comic and
other scenes very well. The scene when she tells Mahesh
what happens to her when the supervisor punishes her.
The complete cinema hall was dead silent. Climax scenes
are extremely tough and for a girl with nearly 2-3
movies old this one is THE BEST she can ever give….!
Friends – “Black” Paandi and Sophiya,
these 2 provide the humor part which again comes along
with the story and sure you would enjoy when you watch
it on screen.
Music – GV Prakash and Vijay Antony –
All songs are good and come with the narration. No
songs in foreign locations and beaches but still you
enjoy. Back ground score also helps the story well.
Cinematography - Richard Maria Nathan – One
more hero of the movie…! No clues how this person
managed to capture the entire life of T Nagar. Each
and every shot I enjoyed and could realize the pain
involved in taking them. In one interview Director
Vasantha Balan said he had used many hidden cameras…
Not even one shot looks artificial…. Extraordinary
and fabulous job by the cinematographer. This is the
best work I have seen in recent times in Tamil Cinema
industry.
Director Vasantha Balan – He made his presence
feel with his earlier movie “Veyil” and
now “Veyil” gets a shadow covering it
on top with “Angadi Theru”. Too good is
an ordinary word to describe the movie. Then what
would I say “Fabulous”, “great”??
I need to refer a dictionary to find a suitable new
word to appreciate this masterpiece.
After the movie, I was speechless and it took nearly
a day to come out of the movie’s impact.
This attempt makes it very clear that, there are more
stories to tell / capture on human emotions and their
day to day life. You don’t need high budget
and foreign locales to make a movie…!
Angadi Theru – Manidha unarvugalin mugavari
Angadi Theru – Tamizh cinemavin pudhiya vazhithadam
Angadi Theru – Ini varum Tamizh cinemavin tirupumunai….!
5 stars for the movie....!!!!!!
