A
horror film is defined as one which strives
to elicit emotions like fear, horror and
terror. Naga, the man who scorched the
television sets in the late 90’s
makes his entry into the filmmaker fraternity
with this genre. He makes his debut with
Ananthapurathu Veedu under the prestigious
S Pictures banner.
Over the years director Shankar has created
a brand value for his production house
by making some script oriented films and
by giving potential filmmakers the golden
opportunity to showcase their talent.
As a result the expectation levels have
increased with each film. The same was
the situation with his latest production
venture especially considering Naga-the
director’s track record.
The film even though categorized as a
horror film, is a complete family entertainer
due to its spirit based spook element.
That essentially means there is no room
for any unrealistic faces or heart beat
increasing music. The fact that the spirit
is a good one and away from the usual
ones which are hell bent at revenge is
the major USP of the film. The director
wastes no time in revealing the genre
of the film and the very first sequence
clearly indicates the presence of spirits.
A three member family visits their village
and occupies the ancestral property that
has been left uninhabited since the unexpected
demise of the

hero’s parents. In no time the mute kid witnesses
super natural activities and when questioned about
it, points to the photos of the dead. The body language
of Aryan is very cute and by the time the film ends
the kid has his fan club ready. The film is mainly
based on the economic problem faced by Bala (Nanda)
and how the spirit helps tackle the issue.
The haunted house is an architectural marvel .The
pond at the backyard looks very beautiful. Even though
the director has done his job decently the film is
devoid of any suspense and is very predictable.
Bottomline: Not Bad……
