Personality this week - Article: Sneha
April Maathathil

Sneha, the vivacious actress belongs to Rajamundhry in Andhra Pradesh and grew up in Dubai. She caught the eye of noted director, Fazil, while doing a cultural show in Dubai who recommended her to the director of the Malayalam film Engane Oru nila Pakshi, opposite Kunchacko Boban. Though the film flopped, she was noticed by the Tamil industry.

She is a trained dancer, an expert in Bharatanatyam and folk dances. She takes part regularly in the cultural shows organized by choreographer Kala Master. Sneha is not too keen to do glamorous roles and prefers script-based characters. Watch out for her performance in Virumbigiren, in which she has acted without make-up.
Sneha says that she has no role models as such. "I am a film buff and watch every film that I can. My favorites are Sridevi and Kajol. But I am not influenced by them. Out and out glamorous roles are not my cup of tea. Glam costumes are okay for me in songs but I prefer performance-oriented roles".

The movie Anandham can be considered a turning point in her career. The song Palanguzhiyil brought her overnight fame. Director Lingusamy mentioned that “This girl has got a great future ahead.” She has the credit of working in K.Balachander’s 100th movie, Parthale Paravasam. She did a small but important role in the movie, Pammal.K.Sambandam pairing with Abbas.

It has been an upward climb then onwards. She has paired with all top stars including Vijay, Vikram, Ajith and also the evergreen hero Kamal Hassan. In the movie Yei Nee Romba Alzhaga Irukae, she performed a glamorous role. She also performed in a different kind of movie titled Adhu, but the movie did not have a great response from the spectators.

Two movies which proved her histrionic capabilities were Parthiban Kanavu and Autograph. In Parthiban Kanavu, she had a double role co-starring Srikanth. The intensity of her performance was appreciated. She played a strong woman with a mature approach towards friendship in Autograph. Much of the credit for the success of the movie rests on her. In Vasoolraja MBBS, she played a city girl again but with shades of vulnerability and romanticism. A great performance indeed!

Her upcoming movie is ABCD with Shaam in the lead under Saravanan Subbiah’s direction. The actress who is just coming out of turbulent times has a long way to go in her career and we wish her success all through her life..
