What is so special about Deiva Thirumagal?

Deiva Thirumagal a movie whose expectation level was on par with that of any leading actor’s movies in Tamil cinema has exceeded its expectation level with its output. Vikram, one of the leading actors in south India, has done only 7 films since 2003 out of which only Anniyan was both critically acclaimed and tasted commercial success. He decided to join hands with Vijay who is considered as one of the upcoming directors in Tamil Cinema.

Deiva Thirumagal is a sentimental movie which even touches the hearts of people who hate movies with sentimental values. It is a movie which doesn’t make you cry because of a sudden death of a character or lengthy sentimental dialogues rather it touches your heart and makes a tear flow quitely.

This will definitely top the ranks in Tamil movies that portrayed the love between the father and a daughter. And the most special thing about the movie is that it is full of emotions, sentiments WITHOUT cinematic twists and turns. There were lots of scopes for the director where he could have twisted the screenplay in a cinematic way but he takes a path where he tries to move the screenplay with

characters mindset. Nasser’s change of mind in climax is a good example of a gentle twist.

Although it is a movie with full of emotions the director used comedy scenes in a right manner which neither made audience feel bored nor it affected the mood of the film. And it is a wise move to make Vikram render his voice for two songs in which he physically sings in the movie.

Rather than just creating sympathy among the mentally challenged persons, the film also showcases their positives. The way Vikram crosses the road waiting for the signal (even in the second half during critical situation) and the way his friends could realize that some problem has surrounded them when they stay in the hotel shows their perfectness and IQ. If you have stressful mind, hectic schedule, bounded by work pressure and need to relax then you can just go for Deiva Thirumagal which will do the needful.

And this will definitely be one among Vikram’s top 3 performances (so far). The beautiful thing to note is that Vikram will still be acting with same determination even when the camera is focused on him in various sequences.

And Sara: What a performance! Just want to say that this angel will be crowned with National Award for Best Child Artiste 2011. And one really needs to appreciate the director for bringing out such a performance from a kid who literally doesn’t know what a movie is. It is not just about performance, the chemistry between Krishna and Nila was mind-blowing. And all the credit goes to the director for making it.

Nirav’s camera doesn’t seem to experiment a lot but stayed well within the story which so much important in a movie of this kind. And GV’s Re-recording has done justice to emotions that was created.

There may be few reasons that we may watch the film repeatedly. For example, if you are a hardcore fan of hero and if the movie is good then you will have another go at it, and if the film has touched you due to personal reasons you will have another go. And Deiva Thirumagal is one such movie which has started an argument between my mind and heart to watch it again and again.

Inspired or copied it doesn’t matter for me; it has just created a huge impact which will take some time to ease out.
