Radha Mohan, who previously directed
Alzhagiya Theeye has again come up with a different
script. He has narrated the story in his own style and
certainly would find a place in the hearts of the Tamil
women. Such type of sentiments is positioned in this
movie.
Venu
(Ravi Krishna), a hard working and energetic mechanic,
also a generous person lives with his mother Ponni (Revathy)
and his married sister (Devadarshini) He was the one
and only person responsible for his sister’s marriage.
He also has a good friend Kani (Gopika) who is a singer
in an orchestra troop. Venu’s best friend is Guru
(Prakash Raj). who is everything for him an adviser,
mentor and what else; in a single word he can be described
as a Godfather for Venu.
The
only feeling in his life is the big scar on his left
cheek. One day, while chatting, his friends gave him
the idea of doing plastic surgery and to get rid of
his unsightly face. So, immediately he meets the doctor
and enquires about the operation. The doctor gives him
assurance that 95% of the face can be changed to normal,
but the cost drawn in for doing it is 1.5 lakhs which
is beyond Venu’s capacity.
Then,
he makes up his mind to start earning money for the
process. He met his mentor Guru who adviced and gave
him the idea of doing a part-time job. So, Venu joins
Pizza Town as a delivery boy. In the process, he gets
a crush over Priya (Sanjitha) who is his colleague.
But he veils the face from her by wearing a mask. Everyday
he impresses her by giving a rose. One day, Venu goes
out to shop in the company of Kani. Unfortunately, he
meets Priya in the complex. Priya got alarmed on seeing
Venu’s face. Realising this Venu apologizes for
hiding the face. Then he shifts his job as a night time
sweeper.
In
the course of accomplishment to earn money, he becomes
very stringent and brings in hatred from his near and
dear ones, including his mother. On a fateful day, his
mother’s life comes to an end and regrets for
all the actions he had done. Now, he understands the
existence and drops the idea of doing the operation.
The
good thing of this film is the dialogue penned by Viji,
without any vulgarity, and all the pieces of dialogue
formulate intelligence and good judgement. Prakash as
usual, ended an easy victory all the way through his
acting. Gopika’s reactions are unparalleled. To
enlighten on the subject of Revathy’s acting,
her performance is unparalleled to none Ravi Krishna,
has utilized the role in an accurate and acceptable
manner and has to still progress on his voice. Vidhyasagar
has done a good job both in songs as well as recording.
The entire recognition and acknowledgement goes to Radha
Mohan who had guided this team, from the beginning to
end, through a path of success.
The
negative of this film is the stunt sequences, and the
item number "Thachuko song" is not appealing
to the movie The camera has not much to act upon, but
still some catchy shots are missing in the film.
When
all’s said and done, ”Ponniyin selvan”
preserves the existence and is alleged as “An
Inspirational Family Entertainer”
