London is a classic
example of too much hype stoking
too high expectations while
the end product does not measure
up to audience tastes. This
was the first Tamil film to
be financed by a U.K.- based
all woman company and Sundar
C. has a great reputation
for making entertaining comedies.
Remember Ullathai Alli tha?
But London is a sad
travesty of Sundar’s
talent at screenplay and direction.
The elements of melodrama,
comedy and romance are there
but somehow the director seems
to have lost his magic touch.
Prashanth takes up a job in
London after paying a hefty
sum trampling over the needs
of his family members. Yet
he resolves to wipe off the
tears from the eyes of his
mother, sister and brother.
His plans however misfire
when he reaches London. He
is drawn to be the voice for
Pandiarajan who impersonates
as the long lost grandson
of an old couple, played by
Srividya and Vijayakumar.
Prashanth’s talent in
comedy came to the fore in
Winner especially teaming
up with Vadivelu.
This time
round the
pair has
not been
so successful.
