Movie Review : February 14

Debut Director Hosimin has churned out yet another ‘run of the mill’,an unrequited love affair, in new dimensions like Guy loves gal, but gal doesn’t see him”

Review

The latest “Kadal” sensation Bharath falls head over heels in love with Renuka Menon at first sight who has just flown in from United States for her higher studies in Bangalore. She has this unshakable allegiance to America way of life in her blood. At college , she does a visual project work as part of her curriculum which triggers protests and disapproval from other students and professors alike.Terribly upset over this, she decides to return to US .As a ploy to prevent her from taking such a drastic step, Bharth sends an appreciation letter to her under a bogus name Mr. X .

Renuka falls for the letter and is temporarily stalled. She longs to get to know this non-existent guy Mr. X She goes overboard by the frequent exchange of letters indirectly and is in mad love with X.Whether Barath spills the beans or not forms the climax of the picture.

The whole Mr. X episode tends to be rather ridiculous. For love’s sake , Bharath wriggles, shuffles his feet, huffs and puffs in his futile bids to reveal his true love for Renuka, which acts he has already demonstrated in other movies. Seeing him in the same light irks a bit. This is doubled by the homely face of Renuka Menon., ideal for channel soaps, Mr. Homisin, are you there?

Story is old din, okay, atleast some logic could have sprinkled in the screenplay.Nope! Certain locales and song picturisation are indeed a treat to eyes, thanks to Lensman Rathinavelu. Vadively is yet another wasted artiste in the movie. Even bad-faring movies have carved better comedy out of him .

Villany is played by a classmate who lays his hands on Renuka’s gift for X, a watch by freaky events and dons the cloak of Mr. X and tries to steal her modesty. It sets our hearts a-flutter a little.Adding spice to the picture, a cartoon character epitomizing Bharath’s conscience, pops in and out of his pocket puts a smile or two on your lips.

It is rather a let-down to see Renuka reading Bharath’s love letter after 3 years. Tall Story, ain’t it , Mr. Hosimin?
