Vijayakanth stars as Ayyanar in this Village background story...

An whole Village has stealing as their main business. The youth's of the village don't know to work. Their traditional work is stealing from other people. In such a village Vijayakanth is the Village chief's son. But some how he knows that stealing others is a bad thing to do, and hence tries to change the mindset of his fellow villagers.

The villagers oppose Vijayakanth's idea of "not to steal others" as they don't know any other work from stealing. Even Vijakanth's father Vinuchakravarthy opposes him in his decision.

Though left out, Vijayakanth still with a stubborn heart and soul finally achieves what he has hoped for. Vijayakanth stars as Ayyanar in the film. "He was born in the Ayyanar Temple and hence is known by the name".

Most of the shooting is shot at a Village near Pollachi. According to the story Vijayakanth has to bring peace and unity between two villages and make them to pull the temple chariot. When the film crew searched for such a temple chariot, they found out one in a damaged condition in a temple called "Mazhai Vendi Ayyanar" temple. The Chariot has been out of use in that temple for quite a long time due to village politics in that area.

The film crew got the permission from the villagers of that area, repaired the chariot and made the chariot to run for the shooting. What the real astonishment was, that particular chariot is pulled by men so that to please the Gods and bring rain to their village. When the chariot was run for the film shooting, a heavy rain drenched the village that same night.

Seeing the rain the real problems which persisted between the villagers for a very long time are discussed and solved. Thus this film managed to bring unity in diversity in the villagers.

It was praised that the story line of "Neranja Manasu" will surely bring the audience to a very sensitive and good mood. Unlike most other Vijayakanth films which centers around criminals, terrorists, and corrupt politicians, this film promised to bring out a true family entertainer in the story.
